
Jinju designated as UNESCO Creative City in the craft and folk art area in November 2019 aims at promoting the development of cultural industry, and contributing the activation of exchange with UNESCO Creative City sub network, and hosting the international event in the craft area to form the creation base for artists in the relevant area in Jinju.
The promotion task is to promote the development of the cultural industry in the crafts field by industrialization, modernization, and internationalization of traditional crafts, and to activate the exchange with UNESCO creative city sub network by approaching the international trend of crafts.
2021 Jinju traditional craft biennale was held with the theme of ‘law of traditional craft’ in order to discover the existence of rule, principle or laws that penetrate tradition and modern, western and oriental, and Korean craft.

Consilience of crafts (合):
Gyungnam Culture and Art hall held an exchange exhibition of 13 artists from 12 creative cities and 12 domestic mid-tier crafts artists.
It is to confirm the same rule and laws function internally even if western and oriental crafts seem to have the different materials and technique in handling the materials.
Intentionality of tradition(向):
Invitational exhibition of 7 senior Korean craft artists at Jinju Municipal Lee Seong-ja Art Museum

It is to find out the harmony between the principle of traditional crafts and the orientation based on historical experience in Jinju's woodwork. The effort to find the experience and consciousness of artists in the works of the wood, and the law of crafts that penetrate the East and West crafts.

The purpose of crafts and folk art international journal is for each creative city to share the cultural experience and knowledge in order to achieve the goal of UNESCO Creative City network.
They are published in 3 types such as English version offline prints, Korean and English version web magazines once a year.
The key contents include Academic papers related to crafts and folk art Creative City, discussions on issues related to Creative City, news and activities of each Creative City, introduction of cultural heritage and information on related books.
As the overseas editorial committee members, Masayuki Sasaki (co-editor) of Japan, Dharma Putra (Indonesia), Woralun Boonasurat (Thailand), Sylvia Amman (Austria), Jade Minty (South Africa), and Jordi Pasqual (Spain) will participate.
In the domestic editorial committee led by Jeong Byung-hoon, chairperson of UNESCO Creative City in Jinju City, Shin Yong-min, Bak Cho-yeon, Nam Seong-jin, Shin Jong-hoon, Lee Jeong-duk, Heo Yong-ho, Lee Jeong-hyeon, Lim Soo-jeong, Moon Sun-ok, and Yoo Geun-jong will participate.

UNESCO Creative City International Academic Conference is held
UNESCO Creative City International Academic Conference in Jinju is held to enhance the international status of Jinju and to prepare the venue for discussion seeking the direction for the activated transmission of craft and folk art and industrialization.
Jinju promotes the cultural assets of Jinju to all over the world by exchanging the creative city in UNESCO crafts and folk art network continuously by hosting UNESCO Creative City International Academic Conference.
In addition, Jinju is expected to satisfy the mission that UNESCO Creative City seeks by suggesting the plan that can utilize the craft and folk art asset creatively with citizen. Finally, it intends to activate the craft and folk art asset, and restore the nationwide reputation and fame, and to contribute to the improvement of quality of life of citizens through this.
