Jinju is one of the world’s top five silk producers in quality. From 1912 onwards the introduction of modern textile techniques and production facilities enabled the development of a mass production system that has accounted for 80% of Korea’s total silk production over the past 100 years.
Jinju has a silk industry cluster with a total of 54 enterprises and about 500 professionals. The annual Jinju Silk Fair (2004-18) helps to promote Jinju silk and holds contests for innovative designs.(http://jinjusilk.co.kr)
